The School of Management Studies is one of the oldest academic units of the
University. It actively pursues all the four areas of academic activity,
viz., teaching, training, research and consultancy. It offers a 4-semester
full-time and a 6-semester part-time M.B.A. programme in addition to a
4-semester full-time Masters’ programme in International Business
(M.I.B.). All these programmes provide considerable options to specialize
in different functional areas. Currently the School offers specialization in
the areas of Marketing, Finance, Systems and Operations and Human Resource
Management. The School also offers Ph.D. Programmes. |

Realizing the difficulties in employment generation in industries in
general, the School encourages the concept of self employment of the
educated but unemployed youth. To this end, it offers short-term
training programs in entrepreneurship development and small business
management, for both manufacturing and services sectors. Also,
considering the present shortage of management teachers, the School
envisages teacher-training programs in different Colleges in the
State. It is also proposed to start a series of Refresher Programs
for existing teachers and an M.Phil. in Management
for prospective teachers.

It was conceived with an aim to promote management education, way
back in the year 1961. The school started functioning in the
premises of the Fertilizers and Chemicals Travancore Ltd. (FACT) in October 1964 as a part of
Kerala University with Professor Emeritus (Dr.) M.V.Pylee as the director. When
University of Cochin was formed in the year 1971 (which later became Cochin
University of Science and Technology) the school became an integral part of the
University. Since then, the school has striven tirelessly in pursuit of
excellence in management education and is celebrating its 40th foundation day
this year. |
